Introduction

aThis wiki has been created in the social communication laboratory of the technical schools in Sihanoukville on 10th March 2009. The purpose is to create a net of material and space of practice for our studies on the area of social communication (information, mass media and Internet.)

To the students: please use this wiki to create your own articles and material. The advantange of this wiki is that the administrator can review your improvement and suggest ideas and plans. We can use both languages: Khmer and English. Remember that your computer must be equiped with KhmerOS font already.

To the teachers of the section: this wiki allows us to create our own courses. You can add your students and they can follow the level of your proposal.

Policies

  2. We do not discuss subjects like politics, ideologies, religions and other areas that enter into a terrein of personal or partial opinions. Material of such nature will be deleted without previous notice.
  3. We do not use documents or files without asking permission if those files have rights of author.
  4. We can use documents of files from open sources, but we prefer to create our own documents and files.

What is a Webmaster

03.18.2009. Hello Sieng and others. Thanks for you work and your attitude. One day you all will be  webmasters. Who is a webmaster? A webmaster is a person who uses the web (internet) as a tool, like the farmer uses buffaloes to set up the paddy for the rice. The web is like a water buffalo, you can actually ride it, and make it to do whatever you ask it to do. Of course buffaloes sometimes have a bad temper , and the farmer has to know what he can ask from a buffalo and what to give to the buffalo. In the web there are rules, once you get accustomed with them, you will be a Master of the Web. Practice, practice and practice.
And a lot of courtesy and patience.
See you tomorrow
Peter

The Ethical Journalism Initiative

IFJ | 03.04.2009. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has launched a new website to promote its Ethical Journalism Initiative (EJI) Campaign about making core values of journalism an integral part in today's media worldwide. The website( ethicaljournalisminitiative.org) will host information about the campaign which is framed around key tenets of journalism such as truth telling, independence and fairness as well as humanity and solidarity.

"The EJI website is an important source of information for journalism practitioners and researchers," said Aidan White, IFJ General Secretary. "It provides access to key documents for the profession and showcases best practices by journalists and their unions across the globe."

The EJI website will have information about important events to promote the campaign with facilities to download material from the site. At the time of the launch, the site contains a book, To Tell you the Truth, which is an introduction to the background and some of the key themes to consider in building an ethical environment for journalism. There is also information about current project activities and programmes, some key texts and links to a network of campaigns and groups striving to make journalism work for democracy.

"The role of media in helping to build democracy has never been more important," added White. "Journalism provides the analysis, context and commentary that keep citizens informed and allows them to play their part in the life of society."
